People really appreciate those who honor time and do not keep them waiting. Punctuality breeds rapport and delay breeds disconnect in relationships, says Dr Kapil Kakar
Establishing rapport happens most often in an unconscious way. However, in this progressive world, the role of rapport creation and networking is deliberated and cannot be ignored. To build rapport consciously, one needs to speak to others’ brain and simultaneously assess what words and statements will the brain appreciate and what it will reject resulting in creating or breaking rapport.
Right intention: Positive intent creates positive results and this is the underlying principle and dynamism of rapport building. One needs to give away with the assumption of the world being a place of shrewd and selfish people. This reduces the possibility of meeting people and creating rapport as it instills more doubts and fear in one’s mind.
Right words: The essence of words for crafting rapport could have never been more. The era of ‘ok' has gone since the term does not show the emotions of the person who says it, leaving the other person confused, whether one has made or understood one’s point well or not. Therefore, it is worthwhile to use different words which denotes ‘ok’ like alright, absolutely, I understand, I am sure, I understand your concern, thank you, sorry, I can Imagine… These phrases give more meaning and refinement to the art of communication, which in turn is vital to the process of crafting a rapport.
Soft tone: A perspective, which needs to be communicated, requires clarity of thoughts and well-integrated words rather than loud voice. One needs to ensure that the tone of the voice should be soft and low. As louder tone sounds as a source of disturbance and acts as a distraction. To craft a rapport, one must develop the aptitude of soft tone communication.
Time: Time is a crucial factor in establishing and enhancing rapport. A good sense of time fortifies the ability of commitment of an individual. People really appreciate those who honor time and do not keep them waiting. Punctuality breeds rapport and delay breeds disconnect in relationships.
